THRIFTING FOR A CAUSE
There’s a reason why thrifting has become so popular in the last few years. In a world of fast fashion and cheap clothing options, our landfills are overfilling with clothes and products that have only been used a couple of times. And for every item of clothing that lands in that landfill, thousands of gallons of water and enormous amounts of energy have been used to produce them. Did you know it takes over 1800 gallons of water to produce one single pair of jeans? Thrifting is a great way to make a conscious effort to reduce your carbon footprint and make more ethical, thoughtful decisions about your closet.
Not only is thrifting more sustainable and good for the planet, but it’s also really fun. Flicking through rack after rack, pile after pile – it can almost feel like a treasure hunt at times.
What makes our Thrift Store special is that when you make a purchase from the SOS Children’s Village Thrift Store, you’re not only helping the planet, reducing your carbon footprint, and going on a treasure hunt – but you’re supporting a local charity.
All of the profit from our Thrift Store goes directly to the Village and it’s an action-based step you can take to improve the lives of foster children and youth in British Columbia.
Good for the World, and Good for BC Youth
While thrifting itself is good for the planet, your purchase or donation also helps to support vulnerable children and youth right here in British Columbia. At SOS Children’s Village BC, our goal is to support foster youth to grow up with independence, stability, and feeling ready to succeed. Through our family-based model of care at the Village and multitude of programs- we provide wraparound care to youth and caregivers and meet the needs of vulnerable youth who are the key to our future.
De-Cluttering For a Cause
Another way you can support SOS BC is by donating gently used items to our Thrift Store. We gratefully accept your clean, gently used clothing, accessories, shoes, books, household items, small pieces of furniture, and linens. Your donations become part of the thrift store circle that helps to fund the programs we run at SOS BC.
