KERRISDALE THRIFT STORE CLOSING
On September 22nd 2020, the Board of Directors and Management Team for the SOS Children’s Village Thrift Store Foundation came to a final decision regarding the operations at our Kerrisdale location. It is with heaviness that we announce our Kerrisdale Thrift Store closing in this special Vancouver neighborhood on November 30th.
We want to share with our communities, teams, volunteers, and staff that the work and impact the store has made on the Kerrisdale community – and the lives of the families at SOS Children’s Village BC – has been far reaching, and is all due to you.
The SOS Team is also working on how we can create a lasting identity in the Kerrisdale community. Our Kerrisdale Thrift Store is a big part of who we are. So we want to acknowledge the work of the community and its presence as a center for thrifting and upselling. All in the hope of sustaining our environment and supporting families and youth in making life more affordable.
We will fondly cherish the energy, spirit, and care that goes into being a part of a community that is Kerrisdale.
Our Customers
To our long time Kerrisdale customers, we want to thank you for thinking of SOS BC. For stepping in to our stores to say hello. For going through the new items that made it to the floor. And for donations that came in from customers like you.
Thank you for making thousands of purchases over 14 years that directly supported our Village. Please know that those purchases made the difference in the lives of the kids in our Village and made sure those kids and youth had what they needed in order to succeed.
Our Staff
Vera Gover, our long time Thrift Store Manager for our Kerrisdale location, has been with the store since its inception in June of 2006. 14 years later she stands dedicated to the mission, store, and the community. Vera will finish strong with ‘her baby’ and with SOS BC until the doors close on November 30th. Moreover, SOS BC will be taking some time to acknowledge Vera and her years of service.
Vera, the success of the store and its impact at the Village is in large part due to your steadfast oversight and tireless contributions. How dedicated, not one sick day ever reported on our records. Thank you Vera!
Our Volunteers
Our resolute and committed volunteers, we want to thank you for your passion-filled service and immense love for the SOS Children’s Village Thrift Store. Without the countless hours you have given to the stores, we wouldn’t be able to be who we are today. With our presence in the Kerrisdale Community and in the 2.5 acres and 5 homes of our Village.
14 years the store has sustained support for children in care. It has supported children growing up in a loving, caring family. It has made sure that they were not separated from their siblings. In addition, our volunteers greeted each of our customers, did the work to process and push inventory, and thanked every individual that donated to our stores.
There is a great depth of respect and gratitude that comes from the selfless service of our volunteers.
Thank you volunteers, thank you for your undying and unwavering support. We hope we can continue to nurture our volunteer relationships in our Steveston Store for those of our volunteers still wanting to stay connected to our cause after the Kerrisdale Thrift Store closing!
The SOS Thrift Store journey continues as we retreat into our Steveston Hub. We hope to see you all there!
