Behavioural Assessment and Consultation

Fee For Service

Behaviour Consultants at SOS Children’s Village BC develop individualized behavioural plans of intervention to assist development of:

  • Academic skills
  • Communication skills
  • Social/play skills
  • Emotional/self-regulation
  • Motor/sensory functioning
  • Independence/life skills

In consultation with parents they conduct assessments, create written behaviour support plans, and evaluate the data and the quality of interventions provided by the child care workers they supervise. Our Behaviour Consultants will make recommendations given how your child presents, giving parents the information they need to choose a treatment plan that works for their child. SUPPORTS THAT BUILD SUCCESS

Behaviour Consultants are highly supportive and use structured teaching methods, grounded in the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis, that integrate a variety of strategies to assist your child in acquiring and maintaining new skills. Applied Behaviour Analysis focuses on increasing functional behaviours such as play skills, communication skills, language development, cognitive and academic skills, fine motor and gross motor skills, self-help skills, social interaction, as well as reducing challenging or undesirable behaviours.

A CHILD-FOCUSED PROCESS

During the initial phase of assessment the Behaviour Consultant will observe your child in the home, at school, and in the community. Then the Behaviour Consultant will conduct a parent/caregiver interview to gather information on your child’s current levels of performance at school, any behavioural concerns, current parenting strategies, and other information to help them understand your child better.

Behaviour Consultants deliver a full analysis of your child’s communication, language, and learning skills, identify teaching and goal priorities, and offer ongoing direction and support concerning the treatment plan. Through ongoing assessment and analysis they will provide programs and treatment plans that support the development of your child’s fullest potential as an independent person. No matter what level of learning your child is at, our plans of treatment are designed to be flexible.

Our Behaviour Consultant services are available as a stand-alone service or as part of a larger program of services. .
