Bluebird North: Where Canadian Songwriters Sing & Tell
Presented by
A creation of the Songwriters Association of Canada, Bluebird North is a rare acoustic concert experience showcasing our treasured Canadian Songwriters, where not only exceptional music is heard but the audience is given a glimpse of the creative side of music. The line-up is different every time, and no Bluebird is quite like any other! The event takes place every two months at the Roundhouse in Vancouver, and we are fortunate to be able to have the event as part of this special evening.
Featuring: John Mann, hailing from his other life with Spirit of the West and as a busy actor; Shari Ulrich, also known as a member of Pied Pumkin and UHF; and Norman Foote, an incomparable writer and entertainer – and all award winning songwriters.

John Mann: Spirit of the West’s front man and songwriter. After 11 albums and countless tours of the UK, Europe and North America with Spirit of the West, Mann has released a solo: December Looms. The project is a return to Mann’s stripped down Alt Folk roots. Mann pens beautiful melodies with emotionally honest lyrics that capture the intimate moments of his hometown of Vancouver, and its occupants. John was also nominated for 2007 Songwriter of the Year in the Western Canadian Music Awards. John Mann is also an actor of stage, film and television and currently can be seen on the CBC TV drama Intelligence, as CSIS Director, James Mallaby. |

Shari Ulrich: Juno Award winner and 2002 inductee into the BC entertainment Hall of Fame, Shari’s finesse on violin, mandolin, flute, piano, sax and dulcimer was first heard in the early 70s with the Pied Pumkin. Her voice, her musicianship and her songwriting have become an integral part of the culture of British Columbia and Canada. Shari continues to write, record and perform solo and to tour with the Pied Pumkin. |

Norman Foote: Norman Foote has been featured in theaters, festivals and symphony orchestras from Nashville to Newfoundland, and from New York to Nagasaki, Japan. He has received four Parents Choice and NAPPA Gold Awards, Pacific Music Industry Awards, Juno Nominations and Socan’s Songwriter of the Year award. He has written music and recorded for Walt Disney Records, Shari Lewis, CBC to name a few. |
Norman is also hosting the evening – he is recognized for putting his theatrical and comedic talents to use as he weaves stories and paints musical imagery that audiences respond to immediately. He reaches out to all age groups and proves that clever wordplay and engaging delivery can make the generation gap narrow and even disappear.
Critics consistently write Norman up as never failing to bring the house down with laughter and applause. His energy, humour and wit will be a treat throughout the night as he hosts the evening.
