Dancers of Damelahamid: Masked Dances
Presented by
This Gitksan dance group from the Skeena River presents dances, stories and songs belonging to Simoiget Hagbegwatku. This high energy performance includes dances in button blanket regalia that are used to welcome visitors to a feast as well mask dances that re-enact important events in their history.

Hidden for more than a century, Dancers of Damelahamid bring to the stage the treasures of their lineage. Not only is it a spectacular performance, but also a representation of royal titles held through carved headdresses and masks.

The performance shares First Nation's heritage in order for their ancestral knowledge to be understood, accepted and maintained by future generations as their cultural identity. They work to inspire other First Nations' communities to do the same and to build pride and dignity in the First Nation's culture.
