SOS Children's Village Run

Sunday May 26th, 2013 Olympic Oval Plaza, Richmond

“Every child belongs... Every child matters.”

This year, the SOS Children's Village Run and Walk is going to be
bigger and better than ever before!

Join us at Richmond Olympic Oval on Sunday May 26th, 2013 to support SOS Children's Village BC. Collect pledges and participate in the Family Walk, 5K or 10K Walk/Run to help make a difference for over 9,000 BC children and youth in foster care. The 2K is recommended for families and slow walkers.

Did you know that?

  • Only 25% of youth in foster care graduate from high school
  • Up to 40% become involved in the youth justice system
  • Over 50% of the homeless are in or from the social welfare system

Our province's children are the future and there's a community obligation to give them the love and support that every child needs to grow into a
healthy adult.

Entertainment

The Passing Notes band is a Pop Rock cover group comprised of five Grade 7 boys from St. Joseph the Worker School in Richmond, BC who will be performing in the Run festivities. The boys have been classmates since Kindergarten and after finding out the commonality each one had for music, formed the group in around the spring and summer of 2012. The band performs songs of the Beatles, One Direction, Coldplay and Bryan Adams to name a few. The band members are James Agregado (vocals and guitar), Cameron Bourke (guitar), Sam Lathigee (lead vocals), Gavin Lunny (Bass) and Joshua Quiambao (drums).

The McNair Cheerleading team
is comprised of students from grades 8-12 at McNair Secondary School. This includes both boys and girls, some who are international students from all over the world. The squad practices all year long and competes in several provincial and out-of-province tournaments. Their routines consist of cheering, jumping, stunting and gymnastics--all to a high energy music track! Coached by Richmond natives Sandra and Stacie Gin, the McNair cheerleaders are very excited to be a part of the SOS Run for Children's Village!

Volunteer Spotlight

"Who would have thought I would be crowned the next Miss Teen Richmond World? Hi everybody, my name is Danica Tan and I am the new representative of your city! I am currently 16 years old, attending the wonderful school RC Palmer Secondary. On February 10th 2013, I successfully won the title Miss Teen Richmond World 2013 at the provincial pageant held at Marriot Hotel. I will be using this fortunate opportunity to be a positive role model to my community. I would like to spend the next year working with causes I strongly believe in such as SOS Children's Village BC. I chose this as one of the organizations I'd like to concentrate in helping out because I believe that every child deserves the opportunity to have a loving family & a safe place they can call home. I can't possibly imagine the burden children who don't have proper families go through each and everyday. My goal is to change that, and help make a difference even in the smallest way! I believe that even the smallest contribution made by someone can make a great outcome.

SOS BC has been kind enough to allow me to help them make the upcoming Run & Walk event on May 26th 2013 a great success! I will be at this event helping out here and there, and so will some of my pageant sisters such as Miss Teen British Columbia World, Yasmine Ghandam, Miss Teen Burnaby World, Herleen Sethi, and Miss Teen Fraser-Valley World, Brittany Clough! These girls have also won a title in the Miss Teen Canada World Provincial Pageant and will be joining me in Toronto this July to win the title Miss Teen Canada World 2013! My friends Jasmine Lehal, Khin Ong, Celhina Edora, Connie Chan, and Vivian Tsang, who have been there for me throughout this rollercoaster ride will also be helping out at the event! You will find them working hard at the Kid Zone area making sure the children are having a blast! I really hope to meet all of you amazing people there, without your unconditional support there would be no SOS Children's Village BC. If you have any comments or questions, please do not hesitate to contact me!"
